With less than two weeks remaining in the month of October, I thought it relevant to talk about my current endeavor. This Halloween will be my first with a child of my own, so I decided I’d make our costumes. Of course, with my to-do list being as lengthy and cumbersome as it is, I apparently thought waiting until week before the holiday to begin planning these costumes was a fantastic idea. I have cycled through so many different ideas from my character being Merida and my daughter’s being one of the bear cub brothers to something in the realm of mermaids. I’m sure you are shocked by the latter. I have landed on the choice for us both to be mermaids. I sketched out an idea for P, my daughter, and found her costume to be a relatively simple to make and unique-ish idea. Unfortunately, my costume seems to be a bit complicated for a procrastinating, mediocre seamstress. The idea, of course seems so awesome and inspired in my head. I want to be this sea witch/goddess mermaid mid-transformation. A seashell crown/headdress with a trailing tail and scales left on my legs would wow any onlooker. To my dismay, I’ve found this to be quite impractical to attempt with such meager time available to me. I’ll attach photos of my laughable sketches made at my work desk between patients at the check out window. Below are some images I used for inspiration in my Halloween costume plans this year. Send me some pictures of your Halloween costume ideas compared with what your final selection. I think next year, I’ll either go to Walmart or order online in the spirit of simplicity and peace of mind.
